Dolemeck took a deep breath before continuing on with his conversation.
"He was with a bunch of groupies, drunk out of his mind, and I could see some... drug stuff about the hotel room. Fredrick tried to stop me, saying I did not want to see that, but I had to, Dayton. Ever since, he's been leaving angry phone calls and messages... he sounds drunk or high, or something."
Dayton tried to offer a smile to his younger brother. He could tell Dolemeck was trying to be strong, trying to hide his emotions about this.
"Still, I am sorry you found out how he really is. I tried my best to try and shield you from it. But the more I did so, the more he fascinated you."
"Dayton, I was fascinated by the man that everyone saw on stage. When the curtain was pulled back, I had no clue who he was, and it just shattered the illusion I had." Dolemeck finally cracked a smile. "I understand why you tried to hide this from me. Why everyone did. You wanted to protect me from getting hurt, and I am thankfully for that. You've been more of a Da to me than him... and I'm sorry I never told you that before."
"Don't be sorry, lad." Dayton could not help but feel touched by his brother's words. Frankly, he was expecting him to be angry over. "I am just happy you realize I was not doing it out of malice. The man you saw in that hotel room is not your Da. It was like some monster, one created by substance abuse. And until Da can fight off the monster, well... he cannot be the Da you need."
"Aye, I understand that." Dolemeck gave a solemn nod of his head. "I think I want to attend some counseling, Dayton. The kind they give for children with parents who abuse drugs and alcohol. Just... what i saw, what has been going on with Da has been bothering me. I need to speak with someone about it, professionally."
"I think that is a very good idea, lad." Dayton smiled a little more. "It is very grown up of you to want to understand what is going on with Da, and seek help for yourself."
"I think you raised me well enough, aye?" Dolemeck's smile no longer had any sadness to it. "Thank you, Dayton... for being there for me. You did not have to raise me, but you did, and I will always be grateful for that."
"You are welcome, lad. You really are." Dayton chuckled himself. "I am just so glad you are handling things well in America. Do you need me to send you anything from home?"
